Hybrid Bike Guide

CONSIDERING A NEW BIKE?

When you’re looking for a new bike, the very question we ask is: “what kind of riding will you be doing?” If you plan to ride some pavement and maybe some packed trails, with a goal of fitness or commuting, or pedaling with kids and friends - but not a majority of long-distance rides on the road, nor mostly challenging off-road terrain - then you are probably looking for a hybrid. A hybrid bike takes the best from high performance road bikes and highly durable mountain bikes, without quite being either. As an in-between category, a hybrid can be the best of both worlds.

HYBRID BIKE FEATURES

A hybrid is versatile enough to ride in most conventional conditions, and can roll on the road as well as packed dirt. Usually equipped with flat handlebars, hybrids have varied tire sizes. Frames can be constructed in the traditional “diamond” frame style, or in the “step-through” design, which allows ease in getting on and off. Most hybrid bikes can be easily accessorized with lots of options, including a kickstand, racks, fenders, bottle cages, a bell, and lights, and handlebar bags, to name a few.

HYBRID BIKE VARIATIONS

With all bike categories, you get a better bike the more you spend on it. For hybrids, a better bike means a higher quality frame constructed with better parts, which translates to a better ride quality for the rider and a more durable machine for a long-lasting investment. But not every hybrid is the same - some have a front suspension fork, some come equipped with a rack and fenders already installed, some are designed for a more fitness-minded riding style while others have a more relaxed design. We can help you distinguish between the options to choose which one is right for you!

HYBRID BIKE SIZE GUIDE

Our hybrid bike sizing chart below is meant to serve as a guide for sizing. Hybrid bike sizing is based on height. Suggested sizing may work well for a lot of differently proportioned individuals, but these suggestions will not work perfectly for everyone. When possible, we invite you to come to visit your neighborhood Wheelworks location for a bike sizing.
