We're constantly refining the first-layer platform in the name of greater moisture management and overall comfort. Such is the case with the new Skin Layer family, taking the baton from our Skinfoils with much lighter designs, refined constructions, and better-performing fiber blends. We've lowered the SS Skin Layer's weight by roughly 25% compared to its Skinfoil predecessor and used a tubular knit technology that's free of irritating side seams. A new blend of carbon and polypropylene yarns have been strategically arranged to manage moisture much better than previous iterations, resulting in a breathable, antibacterial short-sleeved first layer that keeps you cool and dry from the base up. The Circular Seamless construction introduces a tubular knit that's free of side seams, creating an ultrasoft, comfortable feel against the body. The sleeves are sewn directly into the armhole to promote a full range of motion beneath additional layers.

We've completely re-engineered our entry-level vest. A new coated ripstop fabric keeps the wind off the front and spray off the back, while the tightly knit side panels allow the vest to stretch to fit a wide range of shapes while keeping a close-to-body fit that eliminates fabric flapping in the wind. This is a modern interpretation of the wind shell jacket, the one you keep in your pocket for a long descent or put on for the first hour of the ride until the day warms up. That jacket used to be a simple affair — a nylon shell — but the lack of stretch meant that it had to be cut on the generous side to fit all body shapes, both on and off the bike. We've completely reimagined what the shell jacket should be and how it's constructed. We've added panels on the sides and the sleeves in a very high-stretch yet tightly knit fabric that allows us to give the jacket a modern, close-to-body fit for aero gains on any terrain, and it actually keeps more heat in than a jacket that's flapping about. We've kept it very compact so that it can pack away into minimal space in a jersey pocket. The creation of this product started with a list of the things we wanted to fix about winter gloves: we wanted to make a glove that's warm without being bulky, is easy to get on and off, is mostly waterproof without having it suck in dry weather due to low breathability, and is super comfortable. We innovated everything on this glove, starting with the base fabrics: we've used a stretch water-resistant windproof outer shell over PrimaLoft Gold insulation to make it warm, and an insanely soft inner liner that happens to slide easily over even a sweaty hand for easy on/off. IF YOU HAD JUST ONE JACKET The Perfetto RoS is the one jacket that does everything well. We initially designed it as a cool-weather training and extreme-weather race piece for our pro riders, but in reality, it excels in many conditions thanks to its full wind protection, great fit through stretchy fabrics, and best-in-class breathability. Winter 2019 represents the biggest performance upgrade in the four generations of this jacket. RoS in the name signifies Rain or Shine. The emphasis should be on dry-weather comfort, which is where this jacket really excels, but then you get near waterproof protection if you do get caught in the rain. We worked with Gore to develop two new Castelli exclusive GORE-TEX INFINIUM WINDSTOPPER fabrics. We use a light fleece-lined water-resistant version on the forward-facing surfaces and a lighter, stretchier fabric on the back that maintains the breathability of the previous fabric while improving water repellency at the same time. The Perfetto RoS is that ideal weight: no built-in insulation so you can layer over a light base layer for moderate conditions. Or you can add a thermal jersey underneath and take it to very cold conditions. You decide. This is the Castelli of commute jackets, made to deliver maximum function on the bike and then look great when you get to work. We wanted a jacket that provides maximum visibility during those night commutes but doesn't look ridiculous with all kinds of silver reflective bands and strips when you get to the office. We applied a nearly unnoticeable reflective print on the entire surface of the jacket. You don't really see it when you're riding in the daytime or wearing the jacket off the bike, but at night the jacket reflects a distinctive pattern to get you noticed. We didn't stop at the reflectivity. The 20,000 mm water column means no water is coming through, ever. And the 20,000 MVTR breathability means that a good amount of moisture will escape. But it's the ventilation details that make this jacket stand out: there's a gaiter at the waist that you can close to seal out the wind or leave open to let some air come in from the bottom to keep you cooler.
