Revolutionary Cycling Gear

Castelli makes the most innovative clothing for the cyclist seeking maximum performance. They revolutionized cycling clothing design for bike racers - and now everyday cyclists can reap the benefits.

A Classical History

Castelli originated with Vittore Gianna's tailor shop in Milan, opened in 1876. Gianna clothed local football (aka soccer) teams and tailored the Milan Ballet. Cycling clothing joined the mix in 1910 for world champion and Giro d’Italia hero Alfredo Binda. The Castelli name came into being in 1939 when Gianna’s young staffer Armando Castelli bought the company with an eye to dressing Italian cycling stars like Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi. Pro team clients grew to include a dozen pro cycling teams.

The Scorpion

The brand’s mascot first appeared alongside the Castelli name in 1974, in time for the launch of the company’s first aerodynamic Lycra shorts used in racing and sold to the public. Subsequent revolutions in cycling clothing came with the introduction of multi-colored - not just black - shorts, then sublimated fabric, which allowed sponsor logos to be printed directly on fabric.

All-Season and Wind-Cheating

Castelli’s first thermal clothing came on the scene in 1984. The company added aerodynamic skinsuits and a full women’s line to their catalog by 1996. Castelli’s pro kit got lighter and more aerodynamic with every passing year, with seamless fabric designs, water-repellent yet breathable fabric designs, and full skinsuits for racing. The end goal of all this innovation? To combine aerodynamics with fit and comfort, to make the perfect clothing for cycling.
